Filler selection

The number of available filler materials for soft-tissue augmentation and rejuvenation continues to increase.3 They can be categorized based on different qualities: derivation (autologous, xenograft, allograft, synthetic, semi-synthetic); depth of cutaneous injection (dermal, subcutaneous); reversibility (reversible and nonreversible); and longevity (temporary and permanent). Table 58-4 compares selected FDA-approved agents. Knowledge of these different properties allows for appropriate placement at the appropriate anatomic location.
