Pulsed-dye laser (PDL) was the first laser developed to utilize selective photothermolysis to treat dyspigmentation. It uses specialized liquid dye suspension as the source of the laser beam. PDL was first used in the treatment of port-wine stain birthmarks and other vascular lesions, but has since shown efficacy in treating a broad range of dermatologic conditions.55 For example, studies have shown PDLโ€™s effectiveness in treating acne scars.56
