Juvederm Voluma correction lasted 15 months for submalar cheeks.77 Product placement should be aimed toward the deep subcutaneous fat ideally in the intermediate buccal fat pad (Fig. 75-12). Small bolus placements through cross-hatching or fanning can be accomplished using a sharp 30 gauge or smaller needle or blunt cannula. The same entry points described for the upper medial cheek can be used to approach the submalar cheek.84 HA filler injections in a fanning pattern using a cannula in the subcutaneous space may be used to create structure and support for the submalar region so as to improve the gaunt appearance that may be seen with age and in individuals who perform extensive aerobic exercise. The end result is a softer silhouette with improved contour and less rhytid formation with animation.
