Indications
Youthful temples are convex and form a continuous contour with the forehead and zygomatic arch without a sudden drop off in volume at the temporal suture line. Progressive temporal fossa concavity occurs with advancing age, emphasizing the bony outline of the lateral orbital rim.47 Volume restoration and correction of temporal concavity may be achieved with soft-tissue fillers. In females, the goal of treatment is to make the temples appear flat and not convex, as might more commonly be done with male patients. Knowledge of local anatomy will help to minimize the risk of intravascular injection, especially of the superficial temporal artery, and avoid damage to the frontal branch of the facial nerve.32
