Step seven: Skin closure

Step seven: Skin closure

Many surgeons use staples to close hair-bearing incisions, although I prefer 4-0 or 5-0 gut suture. I prefer 5-0 gut for the preauricular incisions and 4-0 gut for the lobe, sulcus, and occipital hairline incision closure. Although many surgeons use subcutaneous sutures for closure, I do not. The final closure is shown in Figure 74-15.

It is important to reposition the earlobe in a passive normal position so it is not

retracted or pulled in an unnatural direction.

At this point, the same surgical procedure is performed on the contralateral side.

Figure 74-15. This image shows the final closure (with some sutures not placed yet) of the front and back incision.
