Postoperative management
Postoperative management
Patients can be admitted to the hospital for observation overnight following limited excision under general anesthesia, or return home following a limited excision under local anesthesia. Wounds are preferably left open for secondary intention healing. Postoperative wound care is similar for both excision techniques and as described in the โderoofingโ section. The use of vacuum-assisted closure is not required, as postoperative wounds are not chronic in nature. To evaluate wound healing, patients can be seen 7 to 14 days after surgery. A single topical application of silver nitrate or daily application of a topical corticosteroid (classes III to IV) can be used to treat possible hypergranulation.
