Postoperative management

Postoperative management

Patients can be admitted to the hospital for observation overnight following limited excision under general anesthesia, or return home following a limited excision under local anesthesia. Wounds are preferably left open for secondary intention healing. Postoperative wound care is similar for both excision techniques and as described in the โ€œderoofingโ€ section. The use of vacuum-assisted closure is not required, as postoperative wounds are not chronic in nature. To evaluate wound healing, patients can be seen 7 to 14 days after surgery. A single topical application of silver nitrate or daily application of a topical corticosteroid (classes III to IV) can be used to treat possible hypergranulation.
