Glycolic- and salicylic acidโbased chemical peels are another approach to treating inflammatory and comedonal acne, and may be beneficial for postinflammatory hyperpigmentation.21 Salicylic acid is a chemical peeling agent effective against inflammatory lesions, and can easily penetrate the pores of the skin due to its high lipophilicity.22 However, maintenance treatments are necessary for chemical peels to have a long-lasting effect. Patients have reported a higher satisfaction rate with chemical peels compared to microdermabrasion.23
