Recurrence

Recurrence

If an epidermal cyst is not removed in its entirety, there is a chance of recurrence; this is possible even when the cyst wall is removed in its entirety, as tiny daughter cysts may exist adjacent to a larger cyst. Previously removed or manipulated cysts are at increased risk of recurrence. Patients should be informed of this risk preprocedure, particularly if the cyst has a history of manipulation, infection, or previous excision.
