Nerve damage
Nerve damage
Sensory nerve loss often occurs during Mohs surgery, because small sensory fibers are severed during tumor excision. Such deficits are usually short term owing to regeneration of the nerve fibers. Motor nerve damage may occur when tumors invade or surround the nerve and must be sacrificed. Regardless, a detailed knowledge of anatomy is important to avoid these structures when possible and to warn patients when nerve compromise may be imminent.
