Postoperative instructions

Patients often tolerate this procedure very well, as the pedicle is camouflaged behind the ear and they can wear glasses and hearing aids after the initial pressure dressing is removed in 24 to 48 hours. Continued drainage from the pedicle is a nuisance for many patients, and this should be discussed preoperatively. Packing or a penrose drain may be inserted in the postauricular tunnel to mitigate this concern. The dressing is changed 1 week later.
