PARANASAL INTERPOLATION FLAP
PARANASAL INTERPOLATION FLAP
The paranasal interpolation flap (PIF), a variation of the CIF, is a random pattern flap derived from the lateral nasal sidewall and nasofacial sulcus.17 Since this is a nonhairbearing area, this flap can prevent the transfer of facial hair to the nasal ala as may occur with the traditional CIF in men. Another advantage of this location is that the pedicle has a smaller axis of rotation, which causes less torsional strain and requires a shorter flap. The donor site location also prevents the flattening and asymmetry of the melolabial fold observed with the traditional CIF. This flap is best used for small- to medium-sized defects isolated on the nasal ala. Patients with excessive lower eyelid laxity are not good candidates for this repair due to the risk of ectropion.
