Pinpoint electrocoagulation may be used along the pedicle to provide hemostasis, though the area often continues to ooze postoperatively as the epinephrine effect wears off. Wrapping the pedicle in oxidized regenerated cellulose gauze (Surgicel, Ethicon, Inc., Somerville, NJ) may help reduce bleeding.11 A bulky pressure dressing is placed which may obstruct peripheral vision and prevent the patient from wearing glasses (Fig. 26-7). Having a driver is therefore necessary. The patient returns in 1 week for a dressing change.
