Postprocedure care
Counsel the patient on local wound care. Change the wound dressing and/or packing every 24 hours and after each shower. Petrolatum may be applied to an incised wound that does not require further drainage in order to promote wound healing.
Cover the wound with a sterile, nonadherent dressing. Apply several layers of gauze to absorb any persistent drainage, and secure the dressing with surgical tape such as paper tape.
