Clindamycin mixed with lidocaine has been described as a way to provide antibiotic prophylaxis. One study examined 1172 wounds treated with 50 cc 1% lidocaine mixed with epinephrine, 5 mL of 8.4% NaHCO3, and 0.15 mL of 150-mg/mL clindamycin.31
Culture-positive wound infections were less frequent in the clindamycin group compared to control group. No allergic reactions were reported. More data need to be evaluated before this combination is routinely recommended.
